I would imagine that a 5 lb 3 oz 7mm-08 and a 5 lb 10 oz 280 AI won't be too dissimilar in felt recoil, both have the same, good recoil pad, "my" advice FWIW would be to magnaport the 280 AI and go - Load 140's and don't get too energetic with the loads (I sure hope ya don't wreck the rifle with one of them gosh darn'd muzzle brakes !)

I have a 280 and love it but for shorter ranges and a quick handling gun, I would still use a 7mm-08. Mine is a Remington youth model 7 with walnut stock and 3x9 Leupold scope with QD rings. My 280 is in a 7400 model Remington. If you want a "beanfield" rifle, get the 280 Ackley Improved version. _____ Used a Lilja barrel 1/9 twist for my 280AI and with 160gr Accubond jump is .030" . I took the R-17 data for the 280 with 160gr bullets max load was 51.5gr and I started there and worked up. In my rifle 56gr/R-17,160gr accubond,Fed 210M primer 3046fps is a good load.

I see the 280 AI has about 100-125 fps over the standard 280. Has anyone here ever compared the actual downrange ballistics of bullets fired from these two cartridge? By that I mean if a 280 AI starts a 160 gr. partition at 3000 fps, and a 280 starts the same bullet at 2900 fps, how much real difference is there in the two?
